e-News Issue 1

Dear friends

It is indeed a pleasure to write this message as we launch the first issue of our newsletter. After setting up our website last year, it was only natural to make the best possible use of its potential to communicate our message and our work as widely as possible.

Real friendship and deep relations are only possible when people communicate. Relationships cannot live on past memories alone, but must feed on the present. We are sure there is enough life and activity among the Jesuits, locally and internationally that we will be happy to share with you and that you will be interested to know about.

Our times of great changes sometimes seem to shake the foundations of what we believed to be permanent. As the numbers of Jesuits and other religious shrink we think that we are merely diminishing, simply managing our inevitable demise with dignity. Yet those of us who are working in the Lord’s field know that the reality is different, for while we are growing less and the context becomes more difficult, we are everywhere witnesses of the strong and life-giving presence of the Spirit of Jesus, who renews the face of the earth and inspires us to be creative in his service.

May this newsletter be a means of better communication, of spreading the good news of this ever-creative presence of God in his Church.
