Hope Shines from the East

Louis Caruana SJ, a Maltese Jesuit who teaches philosophy in London, sent a message from Ho Chi Minh City(former Saigon), Vietnam, where he has been teaching young Jesuit scholastics.

As his stay in Vietnam draws to a close, Fr Louis writes "This is my last week in Vietnam with so many scholastics, 56 in all. The class I have been teaching is made up of 38. The spirit here is wonderful."

As less young men respond to a call to a religious vocation in the west, vocations in the the Eastern part of the world  are rapidly on the increase. Where we once sent our missionaries to evangelise far away countries, the day may come when it will be we who need spiritual manpower from the East!
